Western Togoland group rescind decision to secede from Ghana into an independent state
Homeland Study Group Foundation who have tried to secede the Volta Region and parts of Ghana into an independent state known as Western Togoland have rescinded their decision.
The leader of the group, Charles Komi Kudzordzi, in a Telephone interview with xplonlinegh.com said, the decision was taken to enable them have consensus with the government of Ghana, he added the decision to quit all activities will be sustained after the Government of Ghana has agreed to their demands which he said will be announced soon.
When asked whether they arrived at the decision because of the deadly COVID-18, Papavi said their decision has nothing to do with COVID19.
The group petitioned the United Nations over their desire to be an independent country, rather than resorting to unlawful means in pressing home their demands.
Government of Ghana have tried all means to get the group to abandon the idea but all failed.
The leader of the group, 80-year old Charles Komi Kudzordzi, popularly known as Papavi Hobedetor, was arrested by a combined forced of the Ghana Army and the Police but was later released on condition of his age
Papavi, after his release organised his followers in a disguise of funeral gathering to declare Western Togoland as an independent country to the surprise of many citizens.

Earlier this year, the separatist movement in the Volta Region, the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF), called for the secession of the area which includes Volta through to parts of the Upper East region from Ghana.
The group claims that the area was an independent State before being made to join Ghana in a plebiscite.
The leader of the group, Papavi was arrested with seven others when they first declared their intent at one of the group’s regular study meetings.
Meanwhile, the government has slammed the group’s supposed declaration of ‘Western Togoland’ as an independent State.
It guaranteed that security agencies are taking the necessary measures to ensure all persons involved with the Homeland Study foundation’s planned separation from Ghana are made to face the law.
