A University of Ghana student is said to have drowned after an unsuccessful effort to swim in the university’s pool.
The incident occurred on Saturday, January 29, 2022, according to Radio Univers, the university’s radio station.
According to Radio Univers, the dead was a male student at level 100 whose identity has yet to be determined.
“The student, whose name has not been released, drowned in the pool this afternoon after attempting to swim at a depth of 21 feet,” Radio Univers reported on its website.
An eyewitness who talked to campus radio said: “…the guy got to the 21ft and was requested to go back the first time…the guy went to the 21ft and was asked to go back the first time… He went there again, not knowing, and the next thing they heard was that he had drowned.”
In a video that has gone viral on social media, some people who appear to be university students are seen attempting to recover the body of the allegedly drowned student from the pool.
Meanwhile, the University of Ghana’s administration has yet to remark on the situation.
