Surveyors at E/R Lands Commission distribute over 300 free face masks to traders

Some surveyors from the Eastern Regional Lands Commission have distributed free face mask to more than 300 traders moved to the Jackson’s Park in Koforidua as part of precautionary measures against the novel coronavirus.

The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly to moved the traders to the park to ensure that they are properly spaced out in line with social distancing protocols.

According to the surveyors led by Nana Domena Antwi-Berko, their action is geared towards ensuring the protection of both the traders and customers who patronize their foodstuffs.

In total 1,500 free face masks has been given out by the team of surveyors from the Lands Commission.

The beneficiaries included frontline workers.

“We see it as a social responsibility. Our motivation is to serve society needs. The traders need support in these times; to help them make ends meet in this crisis” Nana Antwi-Berko ssaid.

Although the relocation of the traders has been lauded, the traders are raising concerns about the scorching sun they have to endure due to lack of shed to trade under.

While some of them sat under umbrellas to trade, others who could not afford umbrellas were seen in the scorching sun Thursday afternoon.

Several of them also had no face mask as has been advised by health professionals.

Nana Antwi-Berko and his colleague surveyors after distributing the face masks to the traders also used the opportunity to educate them on how to properly use them in order to be protected from the virus.

The traders expressed gratitude to the surveyors for the gesture.

Some of them who spoke to 3news.com only hoped they would be able to make sales at their new location.

“I pray people come to us here to buy.We need to make some money to feed our families,” Abena Mensah said
