Self-talk is the act or practice of talking to oneself, either aloud or silently and mentally. this internal chatter can be cheerful and supportive or negative and self-defeating. This voice is useful when it is positive, talking down your fears.
Self-talk is important in many ways. It’s the script that we use to frame our lives. If we constantly give ourselves negative messages, then we begin to develop automatic thoughts that take us from a particular incident to a negative emotional reaction.
One of the self-care practices for the mind is to practice supportive self-talk. You are always with yourself and always in a conversation with yourself. Self-talk is something you do naturally throughout your waking hours.
Take a minute and think about what you’ve said to yourself today. Was it critical? Or was it kind and helpful? How did you feel after you engaged in this inner discussion? From my personal perspective; the concept”self-talk” happens consciously, the “automatic thoughts” happens unconsciously. It is like the script of your life that you tell to yourself. They influence how you feel about yourself and how you respond to events in your life.
The reason for positive self-talk as a self-care for the mind is that we usually have negative self-talk more than positive ones. The musings of your negative self-talk, or “inner critic,” may sound a lot like a critical parent or friend from your past.
So, this morning I want you to be in awareness of what you are saying to yourself all day. How do you feel from that talk?
Loving or hating the life you are living is all in your self-talk
