Ramadan 2020 : First sighting for the moon to commence the fasting scheduled.

In the wake of Covid-19 and the subsequent partial lockdown imposed on two major cities, greater Accra and greater Kumasi, this year’s annual national Ramadan and Muslim development conference scheduled to take place at Sunyani , the Bono regional capital could not come off.
This came to light in a release from the office of the national chief Imam in Accra Ghana dated 10th April ,2020 with a reference number : ONCI / PRO 19/20 by the national chief Imam , shaike professor Osman Nuhu Sharebutu.
The national chief Imam added that the national Hilal Committee whichcomprises of representatives from all the regions of the country has unanimously agreed that Wednesday 25th march, 2020 is considered the first day of Sha’ban.
Also,Wednesday 22nd April, 2020 is the 29th day of Sha’ban which becomes the sighting day for the commencement of the 2020 fasting.
The head of the Islamic religion in Ghana further stated ” if the moon is not sighted on this day ( 22nd April ,2020), then Thursday 23rd April, 2020 becomes the 30th day of Sha’ban and Friday ,24th April ,2020 automatically becomes the first day of Ramadan 2020.
Professor Sharebutu again entreated all muslims to do the first sighting on Wednesday 22nd April 2020 and further reminded them as usual,to channel all information regarding the sighting through the various regional Chief lmams for onward transmission to the national headquarters.
The national chief Imam later prayed to Almighty Allah to protect Muslims and persons around the globe from the novel corona virus pandemic and also for guidance to the straight path and extension of their lives with good health to Ramadan and many more years to come.
