Professional patriots yesterday organised a business and entrepreneurship summit dubbed, unearthing business and entrepreneurial opportunities in Asutifi south and its environs at Hwediem in the Asutifi south district of the Ahafo region.
The summit registered 715 participants drawn from the formal and informal sectors including members of the nation builders corps ( NABCO), youth employment authority ( YEA),National service scheme ( NSS), Hwediem traders association, Ahafo youth wing Parliament among others.
The president of the professional patriots, Roger Obeng Agyekum said the programme was to educate constituents already in business on proper business management strategies and also to challenge the unemployed youth to venture into entrepreneurship irrespective of their professional background.
Mr. Yaw Owusu Brempong, the chief Executive Officer ( CEO) of Ventures Capital Trust Fund (VCTF), a successful businessman and New patriotic party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate ( PC) of Asutifi south constituency was the guest speaker.
According to Mr Brempong, to become a successful entrepreneur one must have a personal skill that are attached to his personality , communication skill to speak with his customers and business partners, negotiation skill to reach out to his bankers and suppliers ,leadership skill to be able to unite customers from all background, selling skills devoid of shyness.
The speaker, urged entrepreneurs to develop good habits in their line of duty such as strong work ethic,consistent self – improvement, setting of realistic but challenging goals,been able to control their emotions, focusing in adding value to clients and customers.
He added, every good entrepreneur must believe himself, must understand what he is offering and its market, be a good money manager, have a plan for unforeseen possibilities and be prepared to take risk.
He said, ” success in business is all about selling; you must sell yourself to your customers, to your suppliers, to your business team and even employees”.
Mr Owusu Brempong warned entrepreneurs to desist from keeping bad business associations, failure to plan, unrealistic expectations, over promising customers and suppliers and lack of work – life balance saying, “skills make you rich,not theories, and therefore, aspire to improve on your skills and you will be a success”.
He encouraged the unemployed youth and graduates not to sit in the house waiting for employment in the government sector but start a small business to enable them have experience, reading books and magazines on business and entrepreneurial development.
” you must attend seminars and workshops to act as refresher and improve on your skills, join organisations to keep you abreast with latest development, network with other entrepreneurs to share your ideas with and find a mentor to nurture you through the same field”. He educated
The chairman of the occasion, Eric Kontor applauded the professional patriots for coming up with the summit and the speaker for an in – depth knowledge delivery. He admonished the patrons especially the unemployed graduates to make meaningful use of the programme.
