Next NDC govt will provide all districts with modern health facilities – Mahama
Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has once again promised Ghanaians of providing all districts without health facilities in the country an ultramodern infrastructure when elected as the president in the upcoming polls.
He indicated that this vision yet to be rolled out is part of his health for all agenda.
In an interaction with Ghanaians on social media, the NDC flagbearer said, “…if elected in 2020, I’ll ensure the provision of a modern health facility in each district that currently does not have one as part of my health for all agenda. All districts will receive a modern health facility.”
Mahama also noted that these facilities will range from polyclinics to district hospitals depending on the location and the population of the district.
According to him, proper planning requires that the party take into consideration the ‘location, demographic, population and health needs of the area before siting a health facility’.
The former president indicated that, in districts where there are well-functioning hospitals owned by faith-based organizations, he’ll partner with them to upgrade their hospitals which would, in turn, improve their services to the public rather than building another hospital in the same district.
He furthered that “in districts where there is already polyclinics and health centres that are overstretched by population growth, we will upgrade them to the status of hospitals by adding infrastructure and equipment”.
Mahama was of the view that the greater investment made in the health sector now will ensure a state of readiness of the country’s health sector at all times should the country be hit with any pandemic or epidemic.
