LOCKDOWN THE WHOLE COUNTRY:MENZGOLD COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR WRITES TO THE PRESIDENT

Dear President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,
Hope all is well.
In your last address to the Nation, you told us unequivocally that, we shall largely be driven by science in taking the next set of decisions.
Permit me to bring your attention the current numbers we are witnessing NOW.
Per the official data released by the GHS as at today, Sunday, April 12, we are now at 566.
And the Region breakdown is as follows:
Greater Accra Region – 452
Ashanti Region – 49
Eastern Region – 32
Northern Region – 10
Volta Region – 9
Upper West Region – 7
Upper East Region – 4
North East Region– 1
Western Region – 1
Central Region – 1
What it means is that two more new Regions have been affected—Volta and Western Region. That brings the total number of NEW REGIONS to be affected within the past one week to 5.
Sir, these new cases are being reported in this new regions despite the fact that we are constantly washing our hands and applying our sanitizers, keeping social distancing and avoiding handshaking.
What that tells my unscientific mind is that—people are moving a lot. As your Education Minister said the last time, “the virus move when we move..and when we stop moving the virus stops moving”.
Sir, I can’t fathom why you didn’t lockdown the Eastern Region the last time your address us—at that time the Region has recorded almost 25 cases. Today, the Eastern Region has increased their number to 32.
Sir, the W.H.O has constantly told us that the best ways to stop the spread of the virus is by social distancing and lockdown of people. We can’t afford to let this virus overwhelm us especially our hardworking frontline workers. Sir, you know in all honesty that If we had locked down earlier as suggested by GMA, we would have contained this without having any horizontal spread.
Please with all due respect, I think per this new data from the GHS, it is time to lockdown the entire country with practical protocols across board.
Sir, we have taken some late decisions already which have affected us in our fight against this virus and I believe we’ve gotten to a point we can’t afford to make anymore mistakes or take delay decisions. The consequence of that will be dire, Sir.
We need to take those bold decisions in order to start flattening the curve and more importantly to stop the community spread.
Time to act is NOW. Time to LOCKDOWN the entire country is NOW. Time to cease all MOVEMENT!
Thank you.
Yours Citizen
