LOCKDOWN : Ghana Armed forces is investigating incident of military – civilian struggle.
The Ghana Armed Forces is investigating an incident that occurred in Ashiaman, Accra on Sunday 5 April 2020 to know the nitty gritty of the whole occurrence.
According to a release by the public relations directorate at the general headquarters at Burma camp, the incident involved an attempt by a civilian to disarm a soldier who was conducting an arrest as part of the safety operations on the novel corona virus pandemic.
The director of public relations of the Ghana armed forces, colonel Quashie Aggrey said the civilian was being arrested on suspicion of indulging in illegal conduct contrary to the Narcotics Act of ghana.
“initial reports indicates that the suspect in resisting an arrest attempted to disarm the soldier leading to a struggle during which the soldier’s rifle accidentally went off. The suspect sustained life -threatening injuries ” Colonel Aggrey sadly said.
“while being conveyedto the hospital for medical attention,the civilian unfortunately passed on”. He added
The release also states that the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospitalmorgue in Accra while vigorous investigations have already commenced into the incident.
The Ghana Armed Forces in the release wishes to assure the general public that details of the investigations will be dulycommunicated.
