Instances of selective justice by NPP gov’t and how it has given John Mahama a comfortable lea

Favouritism and nepotism have been unofficially entrenched in the political dispensation in Ghana. Although the various political parties in Ghana hypocritically accused their opponents of possessing these traits.
It is very nauseating that the accusers tends to become the offenders when the tables turn. I can unequivocally state that the Nana Akuffo-Addo government has shown beyond reasonable doubt that ,it is nepotistic.
A lot of events under the watch of Nana Akuffo- Addo have proved that indeed favouritism and nepotism cumulatively leads to selective justice. Contrary to the NPP’s assertion that they will be a unifier and ensure equality before the law prior to the 2016 elections, the stir they have caused as a result of selective justice is overwhelming. Nana Akuffo-Addo in a fundraising rally the NPP organised in Ashanti in January 2016, reiterated it’s commitment to ensure fairness when he assume power.
The NPP, prior to the 2016 elections accused the NDC government for practicing selective justice. The most talked of event was the grand style by which the Montie 3 was released from police custody threatening the Chief Justice. The NPP described that event as disastrous. In statement signed by the NPP’s former director of communications, Nana Akomea in August 2016, the NPP expressed their disappointment on the remission John Mahama granted to the Montie trio.
Fast forward, the NPP after assuming power in 2017 is persecuting NDC guru’s who were fingered in scandalous deals. It is reported that about 21 appointees of erstwhile John Mahama’s government is facing prosecution. Although that is a great step but what will Nana Akuffo-Addo ‘s appointees who have engaged in various scandals be prosecuted by him? What happened to those involved in the cash for seats saga? the BOST contaminated fuel ?,PDS scandal ?just to mention but a few. No wonder he has been nicknamed the clearing agent.
This is selective justice at the full glare of the citizenry. We can only blame our 1992 constitution which is pregnant with a lot clauses which grant the President too much power.
This COVID-19 period has exposed the NPP government on their selective justices they have meted out to the citizenry. After the announcement of restrictions and ban on public gathering by the President in March, some citizens who flouted this directive found themselves in the prison dungeon. A pastor and two church workers in Volta Region were jailed 4 years each for flouting the ban on social gathering. In Ashanti Region the pastor of Open Arms Ministries , Prophet Kofi Nkansah Sarkodie together with two church leaders was also jailed for the aforementioned offence.
The convener of Freedom Fighters, Ernesto Yeboah was also busted for organising a vigil in this pandemic period. When crimes go unpunished chaos escalates, so it was a prudent move to let these culprits face the music. But contrary to people going to jail for flouting COVID-19 instructions, we witnessed an NPP parliamentary primaries which made the citizens to assume that COVID-19 is gone for good. The blatant disregard for preventive protocols was legendary. But the government looks unconcern since it involves it’s party allies.
The nauseating aspect of this was a statement Nana Akuffo-Addo made today during his acclamation.
“We broke some of the covid-19 protocols during our election, I assure you that , it will not happen again.” he said.
His statement has ignited speculations in the public space. The big question a lot of people have been asking is, “why punish others for breaking the same laws?”
Through an executive instrument, the non-wearing of facemask is punishable. Images that circulated during the NPP primaries showed a greater number of people who were not wearing facemask. But the Ghana Police Service has arrested some citizens who have flouted the same directive.
The chronology of events as stated in this article indeed affirms the assertion that” nepotism and favouritism breed selective justice.”
Do you think this unmanaged canker will affect the NPP in this year’s elections?
