Ghana’s coronavirus case count is now 636.
This is 70 more than the previous figure of 566.
Seventeen have, however, fully recovered.
Among the latest cases confirmed, 605 have been categorised as “mild disease” and are on treatment, according to the Disease Surveillance Department of the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
Significantly, there is none in a critical state despite two categorised as “moderate to severe cases”.
There are eight deaths.
Ghana first recorded its two index cases of coronavirus on Thursday, March 12.
Since then, the number has reached 636.
Most of the cases, precisely 268, were recorded as a result of contact tracing of the first few patients.
The past two weeks has, however, seen enhanced tracing, testing and treatment – 3Ts – following the restriction of movement imposed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Accra, Tema, Kasoa and Kumasi.
This led to the tracing of 253 contacts who tested positive.
The country’s two major research laboratories – Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research (NMIMR) in Accra and Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR) in Kumasi – have so far conducted 44,421 tests, one of the highest in the world.
As a result, it is anticipated that more positive cases will be recorded.
So far, a majority of the cases was recorded in the Greater Accra Region, with 509 cases.
Ashanti Region and Eastern Region follow in that order with 53 and 41 cases respectively.
Northern Region has recorded 10 cases, Volta Region has nine, Upper West Region has seven cases and the Upper East Region has four cases.
Western, Central and North-East regions have recorded a case each.
