CODVID 19 : Media houses admonished to use approved educational materials before informing the public

The Director of Health Promotion at the Ghana Health service, Dr Dacosta Aboagye has pleaded with the media in Ghana to stop advertising educational materials on novel corona virus that is unapproved by the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service.

In an address to Journalists after a press briefing organised by the Ministry of Information, Dr Aboagye said unapproved materials and videos are sources of misinformation to the public and pose a serious threat to the fight against the virus.

According to Dr Aboagye, only public education materials and videos on the virus approved by the Ghana Health Service, should be circulated and used on social media platforms, television and radio stations for public consumption.

This is to help avoid misinformation, fear and panic among Ghanaians. We are working with the Bureau of National Communications, the National Communication Authority, Ministry of Communication, Food and Drugs Authority and Security Agencies to enforce this.

“Training workshops on risk management and communication has been handed to most media houses and using approved materials has been stressed regularly. Information management and public education are crucial to the fight against novel corona virus”, – he added.
