Build a stadium before I come – Marcel Desailly to Asante Kotoko

Former Ghanaian born french international , Marcel Desailly has said that Kotoko needs to improve their structures before he will think of managing the club.

The former skipper of the French national team and world cup winner has expressed his love for Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

Marcel Desailly who has been linked to the senior national team, the Black Stars of several occasions asserted that he has known kotoko to be the best club in Ghana since 1989 he visited Ghana after living to France in 1972.

He described how fans trooped into the stadium to watch Asante Kotoko matches then. But Desailly is of the view that the Kumasi based club should have been at a level more advanced than this.

Lamenting on the current status of Kotoko, the former Chelsea player said looking at how football have developed over the years, Kotoko should be doing better in areas like player development as well as infrastructural facelift.

This is what Marcel Desailly said.

“When I came to Ghana in 1989, it was my first time back after i left in 1972 and i heard Asante Kotoko. At the time the local league was buzzing and people were filling stadiums.Kotoko was the first name I heard and that is why I support the Club. Kotoko is something special and they are known to me.The name is high but what is attached to the fame is not enough.”

For sure , I am ready for the king (Otumfuo) but it’s not really like this. It is more about a plan. We talk about infrastructure, Kotoko has been in the system since 1935 but don’t have a stadium of their own, proper structures, I can not come at this time.”

Desially said this when he granted an interview on a kumasi based radio station.

Desailly’s statement has created the impression that maybe the newly elected Kotoko board confronted him after they have sidelined Nana Yaw Amponsah.

Do you think Desailly is right about this?
